New EU project for Infrachain: using blockchain to manage decentralized IoT systems
Infrachain I 12:00 pm, 26th January
Infrachain
announces its participation in the OASEES project. OASEES is a project funded
by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Programme and stands for Open autonomous
programmable cloud apps & smart sensors.
The massive
increase in device connectivity and generated data has resulted in the
proliferation of intelligent processing services to create insights and exploit
data in a multi-modal manner. Currently, the most powerful data processing
operates in a centralized manner at the cloud. However, centralized processing
and cloud hosting usually rely on single large entities to provide authentication,
data storage, data processing, connectivity, and orchestration. This
significantly limits the user from its data governance and even identity
management.
OASEES addresses
the shortfalls of traditional approaches via the use of blockchain and smart
contracts. OASEES aims to create an open, decentralized, intelligent,
programmable edge framework for swarm architectures and applications,
leveraging the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) paradigm and
integrating Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) processes for efficient decision-making.
The OASEES vision is to provide open tools and secure environments for swarm
programming and orchestration for numerous fields in a completely decentralized
manner.
OASEES will
demonstrate its benefits through 6 use cases: e-health (remote monitoring),
energy (operation and management of swarms of e-vehicles), drone swarm for area
and infrastructure inspection, structural safety for building and critical infrastructure,
collaborative robotic automation and wind energy.
OASEES is
developed by a consortium of 21 members from 9 EU countries, including
Infrachain. Infrachain has proposed scientific and operational topics related
to blockchain, SSI and DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organisation) and is
leading the design and definition of specifications for the Decentralized App
(DApp) development for swarms. It is further contributing to OASEES’s DAO and smart contracts integration. Infrachain
will be supported in the project by its members, the Luxembourg Institute of
Science and Technology (LIST), and Compellio SA.
Dr. Adnan Imeri,
Technical Lead of Infrachain, commented: ”OASEES is a great project to fully
seize the potential of blockchain technology in conjunction with IoT, machine
learning, and swarm intelligence. Thanks to DApps, DAOs, and smart contracts,
the shortcomings of centralized solutions will be successfully tackled.
Infrachain is proud to bring its expertise in decentralized environments to
this prestigious project.”
The OASEES
project was officially kicked-off in a meeting in Athens on 24th
& 25th January 2023. The project duration is 36 months. The complete
list of project partners is: National Center for Scientific Research
“Demokritos” – NCSR (EL), imec (BE), TECNALIA (ES), Commissariat à l’énergie
atomique et aux énergies alternatives (FR), Fraunhofer Gesellschaft zur
Förderung der angewandten Forschung (DE), Engineering - Ingegneria Informatica
(IT), National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EL), Robotnik Automation
