European leaders address tomorrow’s challenges at Deloitte event
Deloitte Luxembourg I 12:10 pm, 5th February
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden share their perspectives on the future of Europe and Luxembourg at Deloitte’s Beyond Conference: “Our Role in Shaping the Future.”
On Thursday, 30 January,
Deloitte Luxembourg hosted the Beyond Conference: “Our Role in Shaping the Future,” bringing
together 200 attendees from both
the public and private sectors. Held at Deloitte’s premises, the conference marked the
first in a series of events celebrating Deloitte Luxembourg’s 75th anniversary,
reinforcing its commitment to supporting leaders, policymakers, and innovators
in shaping the future of both Luxembourg and Europe.
The evening commenced with opening remarks from
John Psaila, Managing Partner and CEO of Deloitte Luxembourg, whose
address reflected
on the Firm’s legacy and its role in fostering dialogue that drives progress. As Deloitte
Luxembourg marks 75 years of achievements, it remains dedicated to enabling
business leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs to navigate the evolving
challenges and opportunities shaping Europe’s future.
During the event, Roberta
Metsola, President of the European Parliament, provided insights into the recently published
Competitiveness Compass, a strategic framework designed to guide
Europe’s transformation in the years ahead. Metsola emphasised
the importance of enhancing Europe’s competitiveness, reinforcing democratic
resilience, and positioning sustainability as a driver of economic growth.
Prime Minister Luc Frieden offered a
Luxembourg perspective, outlining how the nation is preparing to tackle emerging economic
realities while capitalising on opportunities for innovation and
investment. He reflected on Luxembourg’s role within the EU, highlighting how its financial sector,
commitment to sustainability, and innovation ecosystem contribute to Europe’s
broader economic landscape.
A highlight of the evening
was a conversation between President Metsola and Prime Minister Frieden, moderated by John Psaila. The discussion provided a sharp analysis of Europe’s current trajectory and Luxembourg’s evolving
place within
it.
Key topics included global trade and investment, the resilience of democratic
institutions, sustainability as an engine of growth, regulatory balance, energy
security, and Europe’s response to the innovation gap in AI and deep tech. The
exchange also explored how European regulation can support business
competitiveness while maintaining high standards, and how sustainability
policies can shift from a compliance burden to a catalyst for investment. The
session concluded with a call to action for leaders to take decisive steps in
shaping Europe’s future.
Reflecting on the
event, John Psaila remarked: “This year marks a significant
milestone
for Deloitte Luxembourg as we celebrate 75 years of contributing to the success of this
country. It is a moment to look back on our
achievements, but more importantly, to focus on the challenges and
opportunities that lie ahead. The insights shared during
the Beyond Conference highlight Luxembourg’s important role on the European stage, and Deloitte Luxembourg extends
its gratitude to all participants, speakers, and attendees who made this event a success.”
As Deloitte
Luxembourg continues to mark its 75th anniversary throughout the year, the Firm
remains committed to supporting forward-looking dialogue, fostering
collaboration, and helping shape a competitive and prosperous future for
Luxembourg and Europe.
