About
Prof. Dr. Djamila Aouada is a Senior Research Scientist and Assistant Professor at the University of Luxembourg’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability, and Trust (SnT). She is founder and Head of the Computer Vision, Imaging and Machine Intelligence (CVI2) research group.
Having received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2009 from North Carolina State University (NCSU) in the United States, Djamila took up the challenge to come to Luxembourg to establish a leading research program in the field of Computer Vision at the newly founded SnT. Today the CVI2 research group numbers some 30 researchers and boasts a high-tech laboratory on the Belval Campus.
Djamila’s leadership has played a major role in putting Luxembourg on the map in the world of Computer Vision. She has been awarded four best paper awards at IEEE conferences (IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology), has been elevated to Senior IEEE Member, and has worked as a consultant for multiple renowned laboratories (Los Alamos National Laboratory, Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs., and Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs.). She has served as Chair of multiple workshops and conferences across her research areas, and since 2013, she has been appointed as member of the Algerian AI Board.
Djamila is passionate about public outreach, particularly in promoting and encouraging women in science. She served as the Chair of the IEEE Benelux Women in Engineering Affinity Group from 2014 to 2016.
