Hendrix Genetics Selects Oracle to Accelerate its Technology Modernization
ORACLE I 4:34 pm, 7th April

Hendrix Genetics, a global leader in animal breeding and genetic research, has migrated its mission-critical Oracle databases to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). To support its broader digital innovation initiative, Hendrix Genetics consolidated and modernized its technology systems with Oracle Base Database Service and the Oracle Interconnect for Microsoft Azure. This enabled Hendrix Genetics to enhance the performance of its research systems and accelerate the development of new services.
Based in The Netherlands and with operations in more than 25 countries, Hendrix Genetics is a multi-species animal breeder with a primary focus on aquaculture, swine, and poultry breeding. It also provides genetic research services to help improve the productivity and sustainability of animal breeding and production. Hendrix Genetics’ uses Oracle Base Database Service to enhance database management performance and security, and Oracle Interconnect for Microsoft Azure to connect directly with its core genetic research and analytics application, MiXBLUP, which runs on Microsoft Azure. As a result, Hendrix Genetics has been able to benefit from superior network performance, accelerate the modernization of MiXBLUP, and more quickly develop and scale its research services.
“Our strategy is to digitize our operations at scale, so that we can simplify our processes, operate more efficiently, and innovate faster for our customers,” said Rob Kremers, director of IT, Hendrix Genetics. “Our collaboration with Oracle is important in advancing this transformation effort. Combining Oracle Database and OCI’s multicloud capabilities provides us with the high performance and operational flexibility we need, while also enabling us to meet the highest data governance and security standards as we continue to grow and diversify our research services.”
Migrating critical Oracle databases supporting MiXBLUP to OCI enables Hendrix to significantly improve application latency and availability, and to accelerate research and analytics workflows. In addition, harnessing the converged capabilities of Oracle Database enables Hendrix Genetics to benefit from data management automation to increase operational efficiency.
“Hendrix Genetics’ work has a major impact on the rapidly growing global breeding industry,” said Wilfred Scholman, vice president, EMEA Cloud & ISV, Oracle. “With the power and flexibility of Oracle Database on OCI, Hendrix Genetics will be able to scale and deliver its next generation of research services for the animal breeding industry. With OCI’s multicloud capabilities, Hendrix Genetics can combine the best of OCI and Microsoft Azure to maximize application performance.”
The implementation is managed by The DOC, an Oracle partner.
